Cochran’s extensive expertise and experience in meeting legislation and industry approved codes of practice, enables the Company to provide authoritative support and guidance to customers as part of its competitively priced ‘Boilerhouse Technical Risk Assessment’ service, covering six key areas:-

  • • Safety

  • • Legislation & Best Practice

  • • Training & Operation

  • • Automation & Controls

  • • Efficiency

  • • Reliability & Resilience

Last summer Cochran were asked to provide independent advice and guidance following a reportable accident in Hong Kong. A fireside explosion had occurred in a 20 year old hospital boiler, which fortunately did not result in any injury or worse, but of course could have been prevented. The investigation highlighted a number of areas where systems and operation could be improved. As a result a number of initiatives have been put in place with the HK government Electrical & Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) to try and ensure such potentially dangerous situations cannot recur.

Initially TK Cheung from Cochran (Hong Kong) undertook site surveys of the existing hospital boiler houses to ensure that all safety features were working as prescribed. Then in December a team of engineers from EMSD visiting to Cochran to receive training on the principals of Management procedures, Risk assessments, Contractor selection, Control of contractors and Safe systems of work

In 2017 it is planned to carry out my detailed Technical Risk Assessment training of engineers locally in Hong Kong, along with Bill Higgins (Cochran Training manager) providing i-BOAS training for the operators and maintainers. Accompanying this are plans to upgrade the existing boiler stock with the latest control systems to improve safety and performance.

Just an example of after completing its assessment, the Company having the expertise, equipment and personnel to deliver a bespoke solution that will effectively match the recommendations of the assessment.
