Cochran 2022 Apprentices awarded their Ticket

Mr Lochhead, Minister for Just Transition and Fair Work, visited our Newbie Works, near Annan last week with South of Scotland Enterprise to discuss their Net Zero and Fair Work progress.
Cochran’s team discussed the commercialisation of hydrogen and decarbonisation of steam, as well as how they wish to bring more young people into engineering.

James’ career at Cochran began in August 1970 as an apprentice Plater manually marking off tube plates for drilling. James went on to become Factory Manager and finished his career after 51 years at Cochran as Quality Compliance Manager.

Niall Smith, Sales Engineer has recently completed his Modern Apprenticeship (MA) Level 3. Niall has been with Cochran nearly 4 years, joining in October 2017 as a Trainee Sales Engineer and is a valued part of the Cochran team.

Students from Annan Academy Outdoor Learning Group with Ms Muir are raising funds for 6 sustainable benches from Solway Recycling to provide an outdoor classroom for up to 36 pupils as well as somewhere for students to sit and enjoy their lunch. We have further enhanced our training portfolio with the addition of a fully accredited BG04 BOILER WATER TREATMENT TESTING training course. Research has shown that water quality is the root cause in more than 95% of all boiler failures! This is an essential training course for those who strive for excellence in their boiler house management systems. The course duration is 2 full interactive days that can delivered face-to-face or on-line.
